Remembering Blackie – Our Beloved Clinic Cat

Blackie was a treasured staple of the Home Veterinary Services practice. He has now crossed the rainbow bridge, and we will keep him safe in our hearts.

Blackie’s job was to keep the rest of the staff happy and focused on the important aspects of veterinary medicine. He started his life as a feral cat, but rescued his previous owner, a neighbor of Home Veterinary Services, many years ago. While he preferred being outside, he would alert her about his desire to come in by banging on a wooden spool of thread hung from the storm door. In the fall of 2017, Dr. Fearon found out that his owner had been moved to the same memory care facility where her aunt was living.

During visits to Blackie’s owner, Dr. Fearon hoped that she understood he would be cared for and given the love he deserved – even if he wasn’t interested at first! For that entire winter, Blackie was only seen on the spy cam, showing up only after dark for his nightly meal. The heated house Dr. Fearon set up was only used for a few hours at a time on the most brutally cold nights. Eventually, he adjusted nicely to his new digs, able to come and go through his basement cat door. Visitors could see him in his favorite spots on the well or in his bed on the front porch. He often “asked” clients to let him in the front door or out of any of the many other ones. He sometimes ventured to come say Hi to clients in the waiting room, but mostly he loved being spoiled by all of his “staff”.

Thank you, Blackie, for all the years of love!
